How the discipline of Project Management started
Nations, organizations and individuals have made several attempts to address numerous problems that seem to arise repeatedly in their commitment towards achieving their personal and corporate goals. Target were never met, goals not achieved, many contracts and agreements became unenforceable.
This resulted in abandoned projects, cost overrun, delayed completion time, poorly assessed risks, decline in quality targets, conflicts and low staff morale amongst others. Extensive research has now brought to the fore the need for nations, organizations and individuals to develop their set of procedures which ensures predictable accomplishment of their objectives in different scenarios.
This gave rise to the development of project management methodology by individuals and organizations to handle simple and complex projects, programs and objectives.
Project management can be defined as the application of specific knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to achieve predetermined objective whether as an individual, organization or a nation. This now makes it imperative for everyone irrespective of their discipline to be trained in project management.
